Safety routines

  • Sleep

Babies sleep on their backs, in their own crib, with nothing else in the crib.

  • Feeding

Bottles and meals follow your baby's own rhythm, not a clock. A teacher writes down each feed and tells you at pickup.

  • Drop-off and pickup

A teacher takes your child from you at the room door and hands them back to you. We release a child only to the people on your written list.

  • Clean hands

Hands are washed on arrival, before every feed and after outdoor play, by teachers and toddlers alike.

  • Allergies

Name any allergy at your tour and we'll plan around it. After you enroll, we ask for the details in private.

  • Drills

Each room practices fire and weather drills with the teacher who leads it, at a pace children can follow.

Our team

The people in your child's room

Each room has a lead teacher, and you meet them on your tour.

  • Shernette Oliphant, owner and director, in a denim shirt, seated on a window seat with a book

    Shernette Oliphant

    Owner and director

Shernette worked hospital shifts herself and opened Bootie because early, steady infant care was hard to find in Canton. She greets families at the door and leads every tour.

  • Kamaria Duckett, infant room lead, in a sage headscarf beside a low shelf of baskets

    Kamaria Duckett

    Infant room lead

Kamaria leads the Infant room. She keeps a note for each family: feeds, naps and what your baby tried today.

  • Eliel Natera, toddler and twos lead, in a polo shirt in a classroom doorway

    Eliel Natera

    Toddler and Twos lead

Eliel leads the Toddler and Twos rooms. He knows both groups, so the move up is a short walk to a familiar face.

Settling in

Your baby's first week

We start slowly, so your baby learns the room while you're close by.

  1. 01

    Step 1: A visit first

Come in with your baby before the first day. You meet the teacher, and you tell us how your baby feeds and sleeps.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Short mornings

The first days are short, and you can stay a while. Your baby gets to know the room, the mat and the rocking chair.

  3. 03

Step 3: A note at pickup

Your baby's teacher writes down each feed and nap and gives you the note at pickup.

  4. 04

    Step 4: A longer day

When you and your baby are ready, the day gets longer. Your teacher talks with you before each step.

How to enroll

  1. 01

    Step 1: Get in touch

Call the front desk, write to us or use the form. Shernette or the front desk answers within a day.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Book a tour

Come see the rooms with your baby. It takes about half an hour, and you can ask anything, including about tuition.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Apply

Fill in the application and tell us which room and schedule you hope for. If the room is full, you join the waitlist.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Register

When a place opens, you fill in the enrollment forms in private. They ask about your child, your child's health and who may pick up.

  5. 05

    Step 5: The first day

A teacher meets you at the room door, and you're welcome to stay a while. Bring a spare outfit and your baby's bottles, labeled.

Questions we hear most

Which ages do you take?

From six weeks to three years, in three rooms: Infants, Toddlers and Twos.

Are you open early enough for a hospital shift?

We open at 5:30 am, Monday to Friday. Tell us your shift at the tour and we'll plan your drop-off with you.

How do babies sleep here?

Babies sleep on their backs, in their own crib, with nothing else in the crib. Toddlers and Twos rest on a mat in a quiet room.

Is there a place for my baby?

Write or call, and we'll tell you whether the room you want has a place. If it's full, you join the waitlist, and we call when one opens.

Can I read your license?

Yes. It is shown on every page, and a copy hangs at the front desk for you to read at your tour.
